Facebook and Instagram Roll out Shops, Turning Business Profiles into Storefronts

https://techcrunch.com

Soon you’ll be able to browse and buy products directly from a business’ Facebook Page or Instagram profile. This new feature enables businesses to create a full-fledged Facebook Shop for free — they just upload their catalog, choose the products they want to feature, then customize it with a cover image and accent colors. Visitors can then browse, save and order products. Facebook will charge a fee for each purchase.

The company also plans to launch this summer another experience called Instagram Shop, allowing users to browse products directly from Instagram Explore and eventually to jump into a shopping experience from the app’s main navigation tab.

As part of this announcement, Facebook said it’s partnering with Shopify, BigCommerce, Woo, Channel Advisor, CedCommerce, Cafe24, Tienda Nube and Feedonomics.

Shopify merchants will be among the first to get access to this new channel:

  • If you already have access to product tags through the Instagram sales channel, Facebook Shops will automatically become available to you in the coming weeks and you will be directly notified.
  • If you haven’t set up product tagging on Instagram yet, Facebook Shops will be available to you in the coming months. To prepare your store, you can install Shopify’s new Facebook channel today, which will be your new home to power all of your sales and marketing activity across the Facebook family of apps. Once you’ve synced your products through our Facebook channel, you’ll automatically get access once Facebook Shops is available for your account.

I am sure there will be a bunch of WooCommerce plugins for this launching soon.
