Google Talks About Shopping Graph And New Shopify Partnership
https://blog.googleGoogle today talked about Shopping Graph: their most comprehensive, real-time dataset about products, inventory and merchants. According to them, it’s a dynamic, AI-enhanced model that understands a constantly-changing set of products, sellers, brands, reviews and most importantly, the product information and inventory data they receive from brands and retailers directly — as well as how those attributes relate to one another. It works in real-time so people can discover and shop for products that are available right now.
This Shopping Graph can span across Google’s platforms, whether someone is discovering products through Google Search or even watching videos on YouTube, among other things. For example, when you now view screenshots of products in Google Photos, there will be a suggestion to search the photo using Google Lens, to help you find the item for sale. And Google announced earlier this year it was pilot-testing a new experience on YouTube that allows users to shop products they learn about from their favourite creators.
The way I understand it (I could be wrong) Google’s “Shopping Graph” is basically Knowledge Graph but for product, it will be the backbone of Google’s push into e-commerce.
They also announced a partnership with Shopify, introducing a new, simplified process that will let Shopify’s 1.7 million merchants feature their products across Google in just a few clicks. This new collaboration with Shopify will enable merchants to become discoverable to high-intent consumers across Google Search, Shopping, YouTube, Google Images and more.
