Google News is returning to Spain After About 8 Years

After an almost eight-year hiatus, Google News is returning to Spain. It shut down the service because of a Spanish rule forcing the company and other news aggregators to pay publishers for using snippets of their news.

This is thanks to an updated copyright law allowing Spanish media outlets – big and small – to make their own decisions about how their content can be discovered and how they want to monetise that content.

They are also looking to bring Google News Showcase  to the country.
