Google Plans to Expand Google Pay Into a Commerce Portal
https://9to5google.comAccording to The Information (email paywall) today, Google is “working on a major overhaul of its payment app.” The goal is to make a “one-stop portal for commerce” where shoppers can directly buy from participating online and physical retailers inside the new app. When implemented, this feature will let users click on a merchant’s branded button inside Google Pay to place orders and make payment. Google has reportedly been discussing ways to persuade merchants such as convenience stores, gas stations, delivery companies and restaurant chains to sign up for the plan.
Google Pay in India already has many brands and companies integrated on its app. Users can’t shop from the app but they can book tickets from some providers, pay their bills, etc. Google Pay is big in India and the company plans to bring its feature to other markets including the US.
