Facebook Launches Gaming App in the US To Go Head To Head With Twitch, Mixer and YouTube

Facebook is making one of its largest pushes into game streaming, debuting the Facebook Gaming app in the United States to take on the likes of Amazon’s Twitch, Google’s YouTube and Microsoft’s Mixer services.

Facebook Gaming was originally scheduled to be released in June, but the company moved up its plans as coronavirus quarantine keeps people at home. The new app also includes casual games and access to gaming communities. 

The global games market was already expected to grow to $160 billion in 2020, an increase of more than 7% year over year — and that was before much of the world was asked to stay home.

Facebook Gaming is available on the Google Play Store now. It is awaiting approval from Apple to launch on the App Store.
