Google Will Begin Passage Based Indexing Starting Next Month For All Languages

https://blog.google

Google has just announced that they are now able to not just index web pages, but individual passages from the pages (for ranking purposes). So now they can better understand the relevancy of specific passages, not just the overall page.

According to them, this technology will improve 7 percent of search queries across all languages as we roll it out globally. Sounds great for users but I have a feeling this will result in more featured snippets and fewer clicks for publishers.

Here is an example they gave

Say you search for something pretty niche like, how can I determine if my house windows are UV glass?
There are a lot of webpages that talk about UV glass and how you need a special film, but none of this really helps a layperson take action.
This new algorithm can zoom right into this one passage on a DIY forum that answers the question and ignores the rest of the posts on the page that aren’t quite as helpful.
Sounds great in theory, can’t wait to see how this impact those specific location pages on service websites.
