Research Shows Various UK Businesses Using Fake Google Reviews to Boost Rankings

Won’t be a surprise to many of you buy a recent which? investigation identified various companies selling reviews in bulk, and the local businesses that are paying to fake their way up the rankings. The report got mentioned in the BBC.

In short, they set up a fake business and hired Reviewr to post fake reviews and then they tried to figure out what other businesses might have used those same companies to boost their rankings. When they reported their findings to Google they had the usual canned response. Nothing new to see here but at least it’s good to see mainstream press picking up the story.
