Instagram Adds Reels Ads into its Marketing API

Facebook’s looking to expand the usage of Reels ads by adding Reels ad placements into its Instagram Marketing API, which will essentially enable approved third-party platforms to facilitate Reels ads creation within their digital ads flow.

This feature update will enable the following three capabilities / use cases via the Marketing API.

  1. Ads creation: Developers will be able to use “INSTAGRAM_REELS” as one of the target positions when creating ads
  2. Ads insights: When breaking down insights by Placement level, it will be possible to see how ads perform via Instagram Reels placement
  3. Ad preview: Developers will be able to fetch the preview in the Instagram Reels format
