Test Shows Sites Hosted on Dedicated IP on AWS Outranks Sites on Shared Hosting With Bad Neighbourhood Websites
https://www.rebootonline.comExperiment: 10 websites were hosted on dedicated IP addresses using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and 10 others were hosted on shared IP addresses that also hosted bad neighbourhood type websites. They were all trying to rank for Hegenestio – a made-up word that had no results.
Personally I would have liked to see another set on shared hosting with less bad neighbourhood sites in the mix and how it performed against the ones on shared hosting with bad neighbourhood sites.
The results of this experiment suggests that cheap shared hosting options can in fact have a detrimental effect on the organic performance and rankings of the websites hosted there if your website ends up being hosted alongside lower-quality and potentially spammy ones (providing all websites being observered are otherwise on a level playing field).
