Has Google Search Gotten Less Accurate in Anyone Else’s Opinion?

https://www.reddit.com

When SEOs usually talk about a Google update not being great most people just roll their eyes but recently there was a Reddit thread that got over 38,000 upvotes that was talking about Google search getting less accurate in recent times.

Some key points mentioned include

  • Google something and often have to go to the second page to find the result to get past what look like ads.
  • Even Wikipedia is often on the second page instead of the first result now
  • Crap from Pinterest
  • Bing image search being superior to Google
  • DuckDuckGo gets a lot of love, especially from the privacy angle.
  • Downward trends in Google map searches and
  • more

This is not in isolation, there are posts like these which looks at random crap ranking at the top and CTR increasing for lower results. Then there are tweets like these which looks at why the all-knowing Google that cares about search intent ranks Google Play Apps for casino games on desktop.

It’s interesting to see non SEO communities discussing this issue.  I still think Google results are leaps and bounds ahead of the ones from Bing but have the quality gone down? Yes, perhaps a bit but they are still the leading source of traffic for each and every aged-site I have and I will still put more effort into ranking things on Google for now.
