Google’s Webspam Report 2019 – 25 Billion Pages Discovered Each Day Are Spammy

https://webmasters.googleblog.com

Google has published its annual Webspam Report and here are some of the key points mentioned in it:

  • more than 25 Billion pages they discover each day are spammy
  • apparently 99% of visits from their search results lead to spam-free experiences
  • they believe 90% of link spam was caught by their systems, and techniques such as paid links or link exchange have been made less effective
  • user-generated spam did not grow in 2019 ( from 2018)
  • spammy sites with auto-generated and scraped content were reduced by more than 60% compared to 2018
  • one of their top priorities in 2019 was improving spam-fighting capabilities through machine learning systems
  • they generated more than 90 million messages to website owners to let them know about issues, out of those about 4.3 million were related to manual actions

They also have a blog post outlining how they detect and handle spam, which is worth a read.
