Google Removed More than 75 Million Reviews from Maps in 2019

Google has shared some stats on how much spam it’s fighting on the local front on Google maps, they also mentioned that they are using a combination of people and technology to fight spam on this front.

Key points:

• There are over 120 million Local Guides across 24,000 cities and towns on Google Maps
• They get around 20 million contributions each day

In 2019:

• they removed more than 75 million policy-violating reviews and 4 million fake business profiles (out of which 580,000 reviews and 258,000 business profiles were directly reported to them)
• reviewed and removed more than 10 million photos and 3 million videos that violated their content policies
• disabled more than 475,000 user accounts
