Google Reconfirms High Volume Of Valid Copyright Removal Requests Can Result In Domain Getting Demoted In SERPs

https://blog.google

Google published a post that mentions two instances in which they might need to remove content from the SERPs.

  • Complying with the law: They use automatic and manual process for this based on the content in question.
  • Voluntary removal policies: This relates to types of content that are information that people generally intend to keep private and can cause serious harm, like identity theft, so they give people the ability to request removal from their search results.

In the post, they go on to mention that when they receive a high volume of valid copyright removal requests (of pages they have removed under their voluntary policies) from a given site, they are able to use that as a quality signal and demote the site in their search results.
