Google Bug Causes a Few Hours of Crazy SERP results

Some of the keywords I am tracking tanked hard today morning. Usually, when there is an update from Google a few results moves up and down and a majority of the results on page one are of good quality but today I was seeing a lot of Facebook Group pages and Pinterest pages ranking for head terms, it just was not making sense.

Barry posted that there might be an update, he is usually quick to pick these up, so it was not just me a lot of folks were seeing this.

A few hours in John confirmed this as a bug at Google’s and it has been fixed. As you can see from the analytics hour on hour report, traffic has gone back to normal.

Update 12/08/2020: There was an indexing issue, which manifested as a ranking issue externally.
