Google Assistant on Android Can Now Read Webpages in 42 Different Languages
https://www.blog.googleGoogle is beginning to roll out its article-reading feature on Google Assistant that will read webpages aloud. To use the feature, users can simply say, “Hey Google, read it” or “Hey Google, read this page” for Assistant to read the text on your screen.
Key Points:
- The screen will also highlight the text that Assistant is currently reading so users can follow along on the page as it’s being read out loud.
- You can tweak the read speed if the defaults are too slow/fast for you.
- It can translate! If the page you’re asking assistant to read is in a language that isn’t your default, it can automatically translate 42 languages.
- Webmasters who don’t want Assistant reading a page out loud can add the nopagereadaloud meta tag –
<meta name="google" content="nopagereadaloud" />
- If you’re a developer, you can add the ability for Google Assistant to read aloud content in your mobile app using Actions on Google.
